I have to say, I was rather thrilled to receive a bundle of Alice Caroline's exclusive Liberty of London Tana Lawn! Figuring out what to do with them however was a lot more complicated than the folding and petting, and photographing the pretty bundle.
I wanted to feature the individual exclusive prints in a rainbow of colors, and keep strong/distinct lines rather than the blurring of the prints. In order to do so I have added a selection of Liberty Tana Lawn solids. I only recently discovered that there is quite the range of Liberty Tana Lawn solids, and these plus several exclusive plain colorways to complement these exclusive prints are also available from Alice Caroline - available here. (The only non-Liberty fabric included in the quilt top is the linen look fabric - Robert Kaufman Essex Yarn Dyed Homespun in Natural).
The design is simple, with alternating rectangles sewn together in vertical rows, then pieced together to complete the quilt top. All the rectangles are 5" (finished) in height and vary in width from 1½ inches x 4 inches (finished).
The quilt has been quilted with closely spaced lines - ½ inch apart - and I have matched the top thread to the color of the quilt, changing thread for each vertical row. It keeps things interesting when quilting so many straight lines!
For the back of the quilt I have used a pretty small scale floral print ~ Meadow in Spring by Sarah Jane from the Best of Sarah Jane collection for Michael Miller. For the binding I have used June's Meadow in Pink from the Alice Caroline Exclusive Liberty collection. I love Liberty fabric for binding!
The quilt is so soft! And together the combination of Liberty lawn fabric and low loft cotton batting the finished quilt means the quilt is super light in weight.
Thank you for stopping by! And of course a big thank you to the team at Alice Caroline for the opportunity to work with these beautiful fabrics. I have enjoyed making this quilt and the prized scrappy pieces left over from my fabric bundle will no doubt become part of more quilts.
More soon.
Rita

Simply lovely! You never cease to inspire!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, Liberty only needs a simple design because of the sheer loveliness of the fabric. x
ReplyDeleteRita, your work is always such a breath of fresh air. None of my fabric resembles yours, wish I had a magic wand and could change it.
ReplyDeleteGosh! So beautiful and eye catching! I love that you've used different fabric widths in your rows.
ReplyDeleteI fold and pet my fabric, too. Thought I was the only weirdo who did that. Now I feel better.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful. Love the solid color blocks interspersed with the gorgeous prints. Makes me want to run upstairs and work on my current project. Alas I need to go to work this AM. Thanks for continuing to inspire me.
I really like this pretty quilt. I love all of the flowery adorable fabrics and how you added the solids. Well done Rita
