Batting:
I love a good scrap buster quilt and similarly enjoy combining color and low volume prints. This quilt was the best of both those worlds! Here the fabric - the various prints and the colors - do all the work, and the quilt design, while fun and interesting, is secondary to the overall presentation of the quilt. This quilt feels very "me" and choosing fabrics from stash was intuitive. It doesn't always flow this easily and without hesitation.
The quilt has been quilted with straight vertical lines only. The lines are spaced one inch apart and I have used a quilting guide attached to the walking foot to assist with keeping my lines nice and straight (by running the guide along the seam lines and previous quilting lines). I very rarely mark quilting lines on the quilt. Supporting the quilt well during the quilting process is key and I am fortunate to have a large sewing cabinet into which my sewing machine lowers to ensure that I have a large flat working surface.
For the back of the quilt I have used a small scale floral fabric - Meadow in Summer - from the Best of Sarah Jane collection for Michael Miller. This is such a pretty floral fabric and complements the soft color palette of the quilt perfectly.
This quilt is available for purchase from my Etsy Store.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt as always and yes very you :-) Your bindings are always so perfectly sewn! I wish I could sew mine from the front and catch the back that perfectly. I mostly do it from the back and let the line of stitching on the front look like part of the quilting. But sometimes it needs to be in the ditch on the front. Oh well, practise practise practise for me.
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness, another perfectly gorgeous creation! You inspire me to finish up my morning cups and get busy!
ReplyDeleteLovely!! And the ruler perfect!!
ReplyDeleteI also want to know how you machine sew your binding so perfectly. Maybe a tutorial?
ReplyDeletethis quilt is happy and very cute. I love scrappy quilts. I think these types of patterns are very appealing for little kiddos too.
