What better way to feature my collection of Liberty of London Tana Lawn than in a panel of hexies? I love both Liberty of London and English paper piecing, so this panel represents a piece of heaven and sunshine in the midst of what seems a long wintry cold spell.
I have been collecting small pieces of Liberty fabric for almost 10 years, selectively adding new pieces, and restocking the favorites. I generally purchase Liberty fabric in fat quarters or smaller (fat eighths or even fat sixteenths) cuts, and have more than 100 different fabrics on hand (I am guessing!), including some designs/prints in multiple color ways.
As you can see I have started a new English paper piecing project. If you're at all in any doubt that English paper piecing + Liberty fabric is a good combination, than let me assure you it is going wonderfully! Mind you getting to this point has taken many hours of cutting hexagons and just as many hours of glue basting the fabric pieces onto the papers, but this is all part of the process. I like to have all my pieces ready to go so that I can sit and sew in the evenings.
LIBERTY OF LONDON TANA LAWN is available from:
Alice Caroline
Pink Castle Fabrics
Jones and Vandermeer

It makes me happy just looking at it!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. x
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, Rita, as usual! I was wondering which glue stick you have been using and if you are satisfied with it.
ReplyDeleteI spent some time a few years ago doing EPP and liked the results, but found it hard on my hands. The comfort probably varies with different types of cottons. Would I be correct in assuming that the Liberty fabrics would be easier?
I love looking at these and can't wait to see your next beautiful creation.
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely. What size hexies are you using?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I also would like to know what size hexies these are.
ReplyDeleteInspiring, as usual, Rita. (Like I need to start a new project!) Any hints on how to store & sort Liberty fabrics? Every scrap is precious! I just bought some new soft pastel fat quarters from Alice Caroline UK. Great service, fast shipping to Australia.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. I'd love to know your secret to keeping the hexie's secure. I was doing a liberty hexie EPP Project and only recently converted it to hand piecing at the hexies kept coming apart. I tried two different needles and three different types of thread. I even youtubed how to sew them - still kept happening. I saw Sue Daley does some type of 'knicker knot' but by that stage I'd started my conversion to Hand piecing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely collection of fabrics! I love EPP. We are melting in the heat here in California.
