This week's work in progress is brought to you by my love for simple patchwork and also the need to work my fabric stash and bust the scraps! Work it! Let's be honest, I have a fair stash of fabric but I am not afraid to use it. Old and new, rare and sought after, 30's reproduction and modern fabric, large scale and small scale prints, stash basics and novelty fabrics, and as always a carnival of colors ... they all work together.
It makes me happy to work from stash and see such a diverse range of my favorite fabrics mixed together in this way. It is a feast for my eyes. The color palette for this project was all fabrics bright and colorful alternated with a low volume (lighter color/white background) fabric). I have again used a strip piecing technique to speed up the piecing although all of the fabrics that have been fussy cut - any fabric featuring an character, animal, or accessory etc. - have been individually cut and sewn together into a rows of four squares that are then incorporated into a 16-patch block.
QUILT STATS
A selection of more than 220 different quilting cottons
were used to make this quilt.
were used to make this quilt.
I have made 42 16-patch blocks and then added one additional
row of squares to finish the quilt at 60 inches x 72 inches.
A total of 696 patches of fabric (29 rows of 24 squares).
Each finished square measures 2.5" x 2.5".
I have turned my fabric stash up side down in search of all the novelty fabrics which add a fun element and an opportunity for I Spy games, story telling, and imaginative play. Oh, and did you notice the pieces of Liberty of London Tana Lawn that I have included? I now some serious fabric folding to do!
Ready for basting and quilting.
