Quilted by ditch stitching vertical and horizontal (edge to edge) seam lines, then adding additional vertical lines of stitching just a little more than 1 inch apart. The quilting, together with the use of the low loft cotton batting, give these quilts a lovely texture and soft drape; perfect for baby play time, and toddler nap time!
The back of the quilt features a single newsprint fabric from the Story collection by Carrie Bloomston. The fabric used for the back of the quilts were leftover pieces of fabric from previously pieced quilt backs for larger quilts. It's nice to be able to use these smaller pieces of backing fabric (and batting) in such a practical way, and truth be told piecing, basting, quilting, and binding small quilts makes for a nice change.

Very cool and fresh looking.
ReplyDeleteThey are adorable. I have to admit, I'm writing to ask you a question. Your postage stamp quilts have inspired me to make my own. However, I'm sewing the pieces in rows (of 46 11/2" squares). Do you think that will cause a problem? Also, is quilting such quilts harder than quilts with bigger fabric pieces? Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteThanks - I love looking at all the quilts you make.
