Today's work in progress is a continuation of my last project and an effort to use up the left over scraps from that quilt (see Strips and Bricks Quilt). I often cut fabric for a project first, then play with layout. This generally works well for me although more often than not I find that I have to go back to the cutting table and cut more pieces. Just when you think you have cut enough squares ... pieced plenty of half square triangles ... I usually have to make more. More, more.
That was not the case last week. I have not idea what I was thinking but I cut way too many pieces. So many extra pieces of fabric that I felt dismay at having to add all of these fabric pieces to my already overflowing scrap bin. So instead I redesigned the layout, cut up some of the larger pieces and made a whole new quilt top. A baby quilt, not too small, not too big.
No extra pieces of fabric were cut for this quilt top. Some of the fabrics used here were edited out of the original quilt but have made an appearance here. I love how it all just works; a mix of prints, colors and textures. Modern, bright and fresh.
Ready for basting, quilting and binding.

Another beautiful quilt! I must say that I am, surprisingly, enjoying seeing these pops of purple in your quilts. I believe I remember you saying it's a color you used to avoid. I'm that way too; but I'm now finding myself actively seeking out good purples. They're rather hard to find. Anyway, I think it adds an entirely new dimension to your lovely signature style!
ReplyDeleteI love your style Rita! Your quilts are always very unique to you! I know I could never pull off using colors like you do! I'm excited to see it finished!
ReplyDeleteLovely, Rita! Like Sarah above, I love seeing the pops of purple here and have only started liking that color recently. That Suzuko Koseki large text print is the best, eh? Thanks for sharing your inspirational work!
ReplyDeletevery very cute.
ReplyDeleteSo very inspiring to me. I have a mountain of fabrics.
I need to just sew it all up and get it out of here.
Happy Wednesday Rita!
