QUILT STATS
Quilt measures 56 inches x 56 inches.
28 rows each of 28 squares.
784 squares each measuring 2.5 inches including seam allowances.
Strip pieced using the Checkerboard Strip Piecing Tutorial.
Approximately 200 different quilting cottons.
This fresh green/blue color combination is always favorite! The fabrics that I have used range from small scale basic prints - dots, stripes, checks - to floral prints and feature fabrics with "i-spy" elements - animals, teddy bears, flowers, letters, numbers, and more. All from stash!
The quilt has been quilted by ditch stitching all seam lines thereby creating an allover 2" grid of intersecting lines. Ditch stitching with a low loft batting (for this quilt I have used a 100% cotton batting - which is my batting of choice) is functional rather than decorative, allowing the fabrics to feature, whilst still giving the quilt a subtle texture.
For the back of the quilt I have used a beautiful Japanese import fabric by Suzuko Koseki - Paris Daisy in White/Aqua, a fabric that I have had in my stash for some time (sadly no longer available in stores). It seemed like the perfect match for this quilt. I have finished the quilt with my signature binding fabric - black and white stripe by Timeless Treasures.
I am taking a short break from my sewing machine and will be listing this quilt for sale in my Etsy Store upon my return. In meantime I have a number new projects that I have been working on behind the scenes, giveaways, as well as Sunday Stashes to share with you over the next fortnight. It will be business as usual, and although I won't be sewing I will be right here to answer any questions/emails and to keep on blogging.
As always, thank you for stopping by,
Rita

Do you fussy cut?
ReplyDeleteAre all of your cuts off of yardage or do you have a scrap bin from which you pull?
Seriously, almost 800 pieces from about 200 - you are only using about 4 squares from each piece of fabric.
I'd love to see a post that shows the pulling fabric & cutting portion of your process.
I just love your checkerboard quilts...a warm wonderful catalog of your incredible stash! This is a real beauty, and I echo the others, the backing is dreamy especially with this quilt! :)

ReplyDeleteI love your quilt and kind of made a quilt like it. I cut up Kaffe Fasset charm squares and used Kona Snow. Now I have to quilt it and add my binding, not sure what to use there. Your quilt is perfect.
ReplyDeleteI wrote that I made a quilt like this one,, but it was your checkerboard quilt that I followed. I do love this one though.
