Backyard Circus Half Rectangle Triangle Quilt

Backyard Circus Half Rectangle Triangle Quilt | Red Pepper Quilts

Early in May I was commissioned by Jodie Carleton to make a quilt with her soon to be released Backyard Circus fabric collection for her booth at Spring Quilt Market (Minneapolis). The timeline was short but Jodie knew exactly what she wanted which meant that all I had do was stay on task. Sew, sew, sew.

I started this project on a Sunday evening and the quilt was finished, photographed, packaged and shipped by Tuesday afternoon. For 48 hours I lived and breathed these Backyard Circus fabrics and the quilt, and despite the rush, when I see these photos I have only fond memories of long "sit + sew" sessions, immediately followed by basting, quilting and binding. There was no time for procrastinating (I think I manage my time much better with looming deadlines) and thankfully everything went according to plan.

QUILT STATS
200 Half Rectangle Triangles (HRT) units
made using a BlocLoc HRT Ruler.
Each HRT unit measures 6.5" x 3.5" including the seam allowances.
Quilt measures 60 inches x 60 inches.
Fabrics used: Backyard Circus by Jodie Carleton and
solid fabrics (Kona Cotton by Robert Kaufman).

Quilted with an all over grid of vertical and horizontal - edge to edge - lines just 1.5 inches apart, which gives the quilt a lovely soft texture. For the back of the quilt I have used a fabric from the Chirpy Lola collection by Rosalie Quinlan (as supplied) and a black and white stripe binding fabric (also as supplied). Jodie knows me well.

A big "thank you" must go to Jodie for giving me the opportunity to work with this cheerful new collection, and it was a pleasure to work with such a kind and talented designer. I am looking forward to seeing many more handmade Backyard Circus projects, as well as what Jodie has in store for us next.
