Rainbow Half Square Triangle Quilt |
Rainbow Quilts are such happy quilts! Personally, I'd be happy to make simple patchwork and rainbow quilts for, for ... well, a long time. And it photographed well so get ready for photo overload, every angle is covered.
The quilt colors are loosely arranged in quarters, radiating out from the center of the quilt in value, and around the quilt in color temperature - cool and warm colors. My knowledge on the subject of color theory is limited, and I tend to go with what pleases my eye rather than refer to principles of color theory, and as such rules may well have been broken.
For the back of the quilt I have used a single text fabric - Newsprint - from the Collage collection by Carrie Bloomston - one of my favorite text fabrics (which is about to be released in a range of new colors in Carrie's upcoming Paint collection for Windham Fabrics!).
More grid quilting. I have quilted an all over 1 inch grid ~ horizontal and vertical edge to edge lines of stitching, just one inch apart. I love the simple, clean look of grid quilting, and also the texture created by the closely space lines.
I use 100% cotton batting for all of my quilts. It is a low loft batting (not puffy) which is a look that I prefer and also seems to work well with closely spaced grid quilting. The quilt has a lovely drape.

No surprises for the quilt binding ~ machine stitched as always:
I know I say this often, but I really have loved making this quilt. Working with both saturated color and low volume fabrics, arranging and re-arranging the half square triangle units again and again until I was happy with the layout, and then completing it with a number of hours of grid quilting has made for a wonderful week of fabric play and creativity.
This quilt is for sale and is listed in my Etsy Store.
