Live Oak Shawlette ~ A Finished Knit

For the knitting and yarn loving enthusiasts ~ and I think there might be a few quilters who enjoy knitting also?

The Pattern:  Live Oak Shawlette by Rosemary (Romi) Hill

The Yarn:  Plucky Knitter Primo Fingering in Sticky Toffee

A finished quick knit - another shawl - involving the very basics of lace knitting and only a few stitch markers.  Chart reading is becoming increasingly less complicated and daunting, even to the point where I know  that I've made a mistake before the end of the pattern repeat.  Rather handy, as frogging my knitting usually ends up as a nasty mess.

Another Christmas gift made.  I've never been quite this organized!

  8. Rita, can you tell me how this compares in size to Nefertem? I ordered the Nefertem after seeing it on your blog and loved the colors and pattern but was very disappointed with how small it was .. surely they should have called it a scarf instead of a shawl. This orange is gorgeous and I'm definitely loving the simple knit with the lace border .. thinking about Cladonia soon.

  10. I'm not a knitter (anymore) due to hand cramping, but I so wish I was. (Although I doubt if I ever was as good as you!) That shawl is gorgeous! You do such awesome work!

  11. Gorgeous! I think there are lots of combo knitters and quilters - it gives you another option when one is frustrating you!

I love how you did your photographs - are you using a light tent?

  15. Rita, it's absolutely beautiful!! If I may ask a question or two, how did you learn to knit and what would you recommend to someone who wants to get started but only knows a basic crochet stitch (and can't even remember that from high school)? I've been so inspired by the beautiful projects I've seen lately that I really would like to learn but have no idea where to really start. It seems a bit overwhelming!

  16. Lovely! I think both the pattern & yarn are wonderful! I am also a knitter, but I must admit to being a bit skeptical that a shawl that size could possibly fall into the category of "a quick knit!". I think of a hat as a quick knit... But then I consider you a most prodigious Quilter/knitter! Thanks for sharing the great project. Lovely.

  20. Gorgeous! I've crocheted since about age 9, but have never been able to pick up knitting. It seems so much more versatile. I'm impressed that you're already tackling Christmas gifts - I haven't given them a second thought.

  22. i ordered the neferem pattern and tosh sox's midnight rendezvous, too, and found it to be SMALL! i added two repeats, and at the last three rows, it still looks small. here's hoping i get a good stretch. i haven't stretched anything for 50 years and don't have my mother's stretcher.

  25. I don't knit myself, but I love to see what you create with yarn!

  26. Lovely combination of yarn, colour and pattern.

Try tinking (one stitch at a time) instead of frogging - slower but less fraught with danger!

  27. What a color! I guess you may not need/want the yarn prizes, but this would be a lovely entry into Celebrate Color if you were so inclined. And since you're in Australia, you get extra credit for helping us celebrate autumn, lol.
