Robert Kaufman - Kona Cotton FQ bundle - Denim |
More blues today - not a reflection of my mood.
Although I am comfortable using white/cream, grey and black fabrics, I find it difficult to use some of these dark/navy blues in my work. I hope that inspiration will strike soon to help me decide just what I will do with these fabrics.
As you can see the two Kona FQ Bundles - Denim and Poseidon - are very different in tone. I tend to favor Poseidon over Demin and I wonder which FQ bundle is your favorite?
Enjoy Sunday!
I really like Poseidon, it seems bright and cheery!
ReplyDeleteI tend toward the Poseidon. In fact, if you look in my closet, that is what you will see.
ReplyDeletePoseidon, for sure.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it would depend on who I was making something for. I like Poseidon for myself, personally, for any quilt I'm making for someone of the female persuasion. But I like the Denim bundle for its masculine qualities - it's strong and silent......
ReplyDeletePoseidon for me too. :-)
ReplyDeleteMostly Poseidon, but right now I'm looking for just the right navy for a border and I think I see it in Denim!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE them BOTH!! Gorgeous!

Poseidon! I am not a fan of off-whites (love white!), dark blues, or gray-blues. I find them dreary. In fact, I just caved and bought a moda scrap pack on sale from hancock's. It's all navy blues and gray-blue gunny-sax style florals (are these really from the last 10 years?!). BLECH. I am more excited for the selvedges and on them. Live and learn.
ReplyDeletePersonally, Denim sticks out to me, so very dynamic! I do enjoy Poseidon though...
ReplyDeleteDenim is my choice. But I make a lot of Denim quilts so the colors feel so normal to me.
ReplyDeletePoseidon, but I am sure that is related to the many years I have lived near the ocean and my comfort with its many looks.
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely Rita. How I would love to have the denium bundle in my stash! Where did you get these?
ReplyDeletePoseidon, hands down without question. Those colors just sing.
ReplyDeletethe poseidon is definitely my favorite! those colors are so perfect
ReplyDeleteThough I love blues, I definitely favor the colors in the Poseidon range! They just sing to me.
ReplyDeleteI think they would look great together in one of the patterns from city quilts like this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/56001293@N00/4365523500/in/faves-30636173@N08/
ReplyDeletebut then i like pretty much all blues (and greens... and solids...)
Actually, I really love the deep, bold tones of denim. The grays and blacks don't do much for me though, so I'd be buying the other bundle. I hope to find myself with a range of konas someday. Right now, I just buy here or there as needed. It's nice to see those beauties though!
ReplyDeleteLove them both - pleased recommend where I should buy!
ReplyDeleteHugs - Lurline♥
It seems Poseidon is a popular choice.
ReplyDeleteI purchased my FQ bundles from:
Denim FQ bundle - www.fabricshack.com
and
Poseidon FQ bundle - www.cvquiltworks.com/
I love denim, like in blue jeans, and the denim bundle is really nice, but I would have to say I prefer Poseidon because it doesn't have any dark colors and it has a little bit of green in it. Interested to see what you do with these!
ReplyDeleteMGM
Definitely Poseidon!! Love the Aqua blues in there.
ReplyDeleteI lean more towards the Poseidon bunch as well. Very fun! Can't wait to see what you come up with :)
ReplyDeleteIf you ever do the fabshophop, they are giving away instructions for a sampler all done in blues. I could see your fabrics in that quilt. And if you don't have any idea what I'm talking about, check out http://www.fabshophop.com. As you go through the list of shops and find the bunny, quilt blocks are randomly revealed. Kind of like a scavenger hunt.
ReplyDeleteMy preference is Poseidon. I made a 36" x 36" version of Cherri House's City Harbor Quilt (from City Quilts) as a shop sample. It turned out amazing!
ReplyDeleteThe denim is perhaps a reflection of August in Melbourne- this weather can't last much longer can it? I definitely favor the Poseidon but I'm sure you'll rise to the challenge of the denim range! Look forward to seeing what you do with it!
ReplyDeleteMy first impulse is to go for Poseidon too, but maybe that's because we're in the throes of summer here in France?
ReplyDeleteThat denim bundle reminded me of an awesome Japanese quilter who uses alot of the traditional grey/navy in her work.
If you put Shizuko Kuroha into Google and go to 'Images' you will see lots of her work and those colours dominate. She does a fantastic log cabin with what looks like 50 strips in each block - fantastically detailed work.
Anyway, as always, I look forward to what you come up with Rita!
They're both gorgeous, but I'd probably choose Poseidon.
ReplyDeleteI awarded you a Versatile Blogger Award. http://www.the-onion.net/?p=4564
I love both, but i do love the denim. I have no doubt you will make something beautiful.
ReplyDeletePoseidon would be my choice I love the light blue and aqua tones.
ReplyDeleteI think navy or navy accents can anchor a palette that is more gender neutral. Like mixed with brown [small prints, plaids, etc.] plus lighter blues in the same tonal value. Another combination I have been thinking of is gray, a rich orange, and navy accents. It's a step away from your usual palette of bright-and-cheery, but you could look to fashion magazines or the runway to see how designers use the darker blues [color combinations and textures].
ReplyDeleteI have just seen & touched a bundle of Kona cottons for the forst time ever this week as they are not widely available in UK & am in love!
ReplyDeleteYour 2 bundles shown look wonderful - I want to touch! If I had to choose I'd probably go fpr Poseidon altho I think the denim could also be a useful addition to my stash!

I love the denim bundle...they would be great as a supporting role for some fab red prints! (or kelly green!)
ReplyDeletePoseidon definitely!
ReplyDeleteeach color grouping has their own personality. I would have to say that it depended upon the project. Can I say both? :-)
ReplyDeletePoseidon every time! :)
ReplyDeleteposeidon is my favorite...as it seems to be most everyone's too!
ReplyDeleteThe Kona Denim would be a great color combo for my new grandsons. It's been a challenge for me to find cheery, yet masculine fabrics. I've started a quilt for my 16 year old daughter and Poseidon would work perfectly with the fabrics I've already purchased.
ReplyDeletePoseidon for sure!
ReplyDeletePoseidon....love the watery colors
ReplyDeleteI'm with you - definitely Poseidon, but I do like the greys in Denim.
ReplyDeleteI'm on board with Poseidon.
ReplyDeleteThey are both going to be useful but I loove the Poseidon!
ReplyDeleteMy eye is drawn to the Denim, but I'm a sucker for all things BLUE. Always have been.
ReplyDeleteIf you are Dutch like me and like Delft pottery, then the Denim colors are perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love both, but the hint of green in Poseidon is calling to me today! Can't wait to see what you do with them! :)
ReplyDeleteI love Poseidon - it reminds me of the ocean!
ReplyDeleteI tend to prefer the warmer blues but of course it depends entirely on what they are paired with :) A fat quarter bundle of ANYTHING is pretty wonderful in my book, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI definitely prefer the Poseidon colours. They seem more tropical :-)
ReplyDeleteBTW - Thanks for pointing me in the right direction for the Kona fabrics. I'm seriously in love.
I like the purple people eater out of all of them but out of the two pictured my favorite is Poseidon!
ReplyDeleteLove those Kona Cottons. One of the first quilts I made..I used the periwinkle and still to this day, when I hang it at quilt shows it steals the show.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great blog!
I think the Poseidon has a bit more punch to it.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilts and the materials you use. I am on the start of my quilting journey. I am thinking of making a lovely blue quilt for summer.
ReplyDeleteI would rather WEAR denim, as I do every single day, but I would rather SEW with Poseidon.
ReplyDeleteI would take parts of either. I think as a whole Poseidon is more interesting to me but I am totally in love with off whites and ultra-dark blues so if you subtracted the black from Denim I would probably like it more.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to choose one of the bundles, I'd choose Poseidon. However, taken individually, there are many of the blues in Denim that I would like to have. I guess my final choice would probably depend on the actual project.
ReplyDeleteI really like poseidon :)
ReplyDeleteTruly Liking the Poseidon
ReplyDeleteLOVE the Poseidon!
ReplyDeleteNot that I would ever presume to offer you (quilting queen) any advice... but using navy / dark blue is really fun. They make for great contrast, just like white does, but in the opposite direction of tonal values. I have been using navy a lot recently to give high contrast against beautiful colours and I think it looks really good. Have fun experimenting!
