Not long ago a parcel of fabric arrived at my house courtesy of Australian textile designer Saffron Craig. Saffron's fabrics are fresh and contemporary and from experience I can reassure you the quality is excellent.
Saffron's newest range of fabrics is called Fantastic Fairies and features fairies, flowers, butterflies and hearts in pink, red and brown with just a touch of green.
This quilt top has since been on my design floor. Fairies, hearts and butterflies were fussy cut. More fabrics were pulled from stash. Green fabrics were added as a contrast as well as lots of interesting detail fabrics featuring ladybirds, flowers, mushrooms and kerchief girls to add to a dreamy wonderland theme.
A lot of re-arranging took place before I was happy with the final layout, and piecing commenced not long after. The pieces are all quite small, the regular blocks measuring 3 inches including the seam allowances.
That quilt top is delightful! Saffrons fabrics are awesome and you did a great job mixing them with the KJR and the gingham. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love the brown and red together and the green additional really makes it zing.
ReplyDeleteThey really are just beautiful fabrics. I love how you have made them all shine in their own way. I had a design floor for a while, but you really need to invest in some wall space. Easier on the back for sure!
ReplyDeleteOoh, yum. I'm loving that, any spare money I'd buy it now off you! Quick question- do you prewash your fabrics? My friend refuses to, and it freaks me out- what are your thouoghts? Mine are running and shrinking, which she says doesn't matter, as it's just for her.
ReplyDeletethat quilt is so sweet
ReplyDeletebeautiful work rita
Is there a rule against coveting thy neighbours fabric????
ReplyDeleteGorgeous colours! The little fairy is just precious.
ReplyDeleteSo cute with the pops of green. I have a quilt kit of Saffron Craig on its way--hopefully arriving this week. I hope there is some fabric left over so I can make a quilt like yours!

You have such a talent for arranging colors and patterns together in an aesthetically pleasing way. That is not easy for everyone to do! Do you have a trick for making each block line up? Did you strip piece some of the blocks?
