This was my first foray into thrifting fabric. Earlier this week I walked past an op-shop in my local area generally to see if they had anything that I could cut up to use in a quilt, but more specifically to look for some vintage linens. It is only a very small thrift store but I still managed to walk away with stash.
I scored three pillowcases at a bargain price. My first find was this floral pillowcase. As soon as I saw it I just had to have it. I also picked up two pillowcases that looked almost brand new by Cotton House. They are in excellent condition, made from a high quality 100% cotton. They are both the same and I think will be ideal for backing fabrics or even as a substitute for the darker linens that I have used previously in my quilts.
These pillowcases have spent 24 hours soaking in Napisan, they have been washed, line dried on a rather windy day, and have had their seams unpicked. I have to confess that I have also already cut into the floral pillowcase!

What a great blog! I love your quilts! Yes I like to dig out great fabric at thrift stores too, although at the moment I am commited to stash busting so I'm not 'allowed' to go fabric shopping as there's simply no more room.
ReplyDeleteRita, this Post has really tickled my fancy - I have a big smile on my face - you of all people shopping at a thrift shop for fabrics when you have such a wonderful stash - oh, dear!

Hey..a girl can never have too much fabric right? Congrats on the great score. ;) I look forward to seeing what you do with these.
ReplyDeleteLove those thrift stores...you scored big with that beautiful floral...what would the equivalent of Napisan be in the states? Clorox?
ReplyDeleteYup, as soon as I use up this huge stash of 1993 and older fabric I already have I am going to start perusing the local thrift shops!:) But today was a bonus day, I found a plastic bin in the basement of fabric I have given my daughter to mess around with and found lots of leftover fabric from dresses I had made for her as a kid.....bonus!:)
ReplyDeleteWow! You really scored. I especially love that floral one! What is Napisan and what is an op shop?
ReplyDeletei can not wait to see what you make of those pillowcases
ReplyDeleteSCORE!! WOW! I have only been looking for vintage linens once and no luck at all. Not sure that I have it in me to keep looking.
ReplyDeleteGreat Bargains.!!Loving the Grey Stripe...

That has never happened to me so you did good. This doesn't look as punchy as your usual style, but I LOVE that blue and green together! YUM! ~Page

ReplyDeleteWell done Rita! You will have to show me all the good op shops! Love the floral.
ReplyDeleteCute! You have talked me into checking my local thrift stores.
ReplyDeleteOh yes love that floral pillowcase , well done .
ReplyDeleteGood finds! I love the soft faded vintage feel of the flowers and the clean modern lines of the other two!
ReplyDeleteI love those grey fabrics, so masculine and interesting. I'm curious to see what you are going to make with that...I'll be waiting :)
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing more satisfying than reusing other people's cast offs for something gorgeous; seems to be in the whole spirit of patchwork to me! Love your floral...
