Both the blue fabrics shown are Liberty fabrics.
The pink fabric in the center is a favorite! Not only because it gorgeous, but because it has a quaint story behind it. This is fabric from a pair of men's Boxer Shorts. I found these in the Men's Department of a large local department store, where this fabric just caught my eye.
The boxer shorts were a Mitch Dowd design and were made from 100% cotton fabric. I really could not justify purchasing them just for the fabric, but when they were still there for the end of season clearance sale I snapped them up. (The men at my house would refuse to wear pink/floral underwear!). Of course, I purchased the largest size available so as to maximize fabric quantity. I unpicked all the seams, and took out the elastic. I have since been able to use small amounts of this fabric in several of my quilts!
I am always on the look out for fabric!

Love the story of the pink fabric! What some quilters won't do to get just the right fabric.
ReplyDeleteYou have a most enviable stash!! I love seeing all the fabrics you pull out for your projects!
ReplyDeleteIngenious!

ReplyDeletewhat a great story! fabric bargains from the underwear no one wanted to buy! Wow!
ReplyDeleteGreat story! What we quilters see in fabric is just amazing and how we use it is just creative! Love yours!
ReplyDeleteOh, what a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI'm terrible about using up little bits of fabric. I save them, but I never know how to use them up.
Lovely! A friend of mine told me a story about her husband going on town and saw this beautiful woman. My friend got a bit angry. But she couldnt stop smiling when her husband said that "No, not her, it was her shirt, you´d love the fabric dear, it was small yellow flowers on it".
ReplyDeleteHow funny to be able to look back at your quilts and know that there's just a little piece of 'undies' in each one. LOL!
ReplyDeleteAndi :-)

ReplyDeleteWhen I worked in menswear we had many boxers like this at the time, I often thought I should cut them up and make something else lol. Now I will :)
ReplyDeleteI love the blue Liberty on the right (Toria) -have you seen the movie "The Boat that Rocked"? One of the characters was wearing a shirt made from this very fabric! you obviously have great taste in fabric!
ReplyDeleteWOW, I never would have never thought to purchase a pair of men's boxer shorts just for the fabric. I agree, the men I know would never, ever wear pink floral undershorts....LOL, what were they thinking! Nice find! And clearance sales make it even nicer.
