Despite my sewing issues it has turned into a pretty quilt. I don't do "pretty" very often, and although I like this quilt, I don't love it.
The quilt is made from 3 inch squares (finished size) and measures 48.5 inches square, in pink and green fabrics with a solid white alternating fabric. The solid white fabric used here is Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton Solid in White.
I have basted this quilt ready for quilting. I even managed to cut the batting too small for this quilt, and now know how to join two pieces of batting using a zig zag stitch. I abutted the two pieces of batting together, without overlapping, and zigzagged across the join.
It was surprisingly easy to do, and if you use matching color thread, this seam is invisible in the quilt. The batting I used was Matilda's Own Cotton(40%)/Wool Blend(60%).
I am hoping today is a better sewing day as I have a lot of quilting to do, otherwise, I will be spending even more time bonding with my quick unpick!
Pink and green and very pretty! I am also using the Kona white on these three quilts I am making right now (plus Swanky).

ReplyDeleteYou had to say something! I read this post, then went up to finish putting together a quilt top, and I hate it. Seams are way off, but even if they weren't I think I'd hate it. Sigh.

Those days can be so frustrating...it's nice when it looks good in the end though :)

ReplyDeleteI had one of those days the other day too. It was so bad I thought I was going to have to send in my machine to be serviced... A good cleaning helped immensely though! : )

ReplyDeleteThat was my week on the machine. I was trying to knock some coasters off but the tension kept getting worse and worse until I threw my hands up. Hopefully the new week will be better for both of us.
I also have those days... It's good to know I'm not the only one.

ReplyDeleteI have those days (too often, I'm afraid) where it seems I'm ripping out as many seams as I am sewing! In spite of your troubles your quilt turned out so nicely - pink and green is one of my favorite combinations.

I know the days you are talking about! Thanks for showing how to join batting. Have been searching to see if joining by zig zag actually works. I have 2 pieces of the matilda's and I am planning to join them together.
