Baby quilts are the most fun to make, and when a family friend recently welcomed a baby girl my quilty fingers itch to make a quilt. I thought it best to keep it simple, colorful, and above all, practical; a practical size and also laundry friendly.
I love to showcase a variety of fabrics and this quilt does just that. I have used a variety of prints including many stash basics, floral prints, a few novelty prints, and snippets of Liberty of London Tana Lawn. I love to mix colors, designs, and fabric types and styles. It never gets old. For the background fabric - the alternate fabric - I have used a random starry fabric from the Printshop collection by Alexia Abegg for Cotton + Steel.
This quilt was strip pieced using the Checkerboard Quilt and Strip Piecing Tutorial, piecing a total of forty two 16-patch blocks (plus size half - 8 patch - blocks). Most fabrics are repeated no more than 3 times and I did take some time to randomize the units; adding in the many individually fussy cut fabrics as well as taking strip sets apart to mix with others.
I think you'll recognize many of the fabrics used to make this quilt, either from quilts I have previously made, from Sunday Stash blog posts, or maybe even from your own personal fabric collection.
I have made good progress with this quilt - it is basted and quilting has commenced. I hope to have more to show you later this week.
Thank you for stopping by,
Rita

It's such a bright and happy quilt. How good is it when friends or family (of quilters) have babies? It gives us a reason for a new quilt :)
