All the Blues! I am so pleased with how this quilt turned out especially as I was working outside of my color comfort zone. I do love these colors and you'll find snippets of brown and grey fabrics throughout my quilts (blue is almost always well represented in my quilts), but this limited color palette was a challenge for me. You will no doubt note that there are tiny pops of additional colors ~ pink, red, yellow ~ for I cannot help myself and they do add interest to keep the eye wandering.
The quilt is quilted with straight horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines. All seam lines have been ditch-stitched; functional quilting rather than decorative, adding texture where needed. A minimal look but not exactly minimum effort. I use 100% cotton thread when quilting and for this quilt I have used a beige color thread to help blend the stitches with the fabric.
The quilt was finished with my usual backing fabric and a similar binding treatment: the backing fabric is Newsprint from the Story collection by Carrie Bloomston (and yes, I have ordered more!) and for the quilt binding I have used an irregular navy/white striped fabric by Art Gallery Fabrics (from the Essentials 2 Collection by Pat Bravo).

Love this one Rita! All that blue is divine. I love your muted palette and how you've done something different without sacrificing your trademark RPQ style. It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAnother beauty, Rita! Even before I read your description, I noticed the brown DS print with the white daisies with blue centers and thought the browns when so well with the blues and grays.
