Quilt measures 48 inches x 48 inches.
25 log cabin blocks each measuring
10 inches x 10 inches (including seam allowances).
[center square 2.5" x 2.5" - width of strips 1.75" - incl. seam allowances]

It's finished! Despite some initial doubts about the layout of the blocks I am ever so pleased with how this quilt turned out. With many possible layout options available I do think that this layout is really effective - strong diagonal lines created by the use of contrasting fabric and fabric placement.

I like the use of the many shades of background/solid fabric to add interest and detail; subtle variations in tone that are difficult to capture in a photograph and more obvious to the eye in the actual quilt. (I have used Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton in shades of white and off-white including the following colorways: White, Snow, Butter, Natural, Sand, Ivory, Oyster, Bone, and Cream).

For the back of the fabric I have used a single fabric from the Tiger Lily collection by Heather Ross (Butterflies in Cream). The colors and tone of this fabric complement the color palette of the quilt perfectly!

For the quilt binding I have used Squared Elements in Rosewater by Art Gallery Fabrics; a soft pink fabric that finishes this quilt with a subtle frame.

  1. The quilt is amazing and love the color scheme. I would really like to do one with all those white shades, but no way without driving myself crazy.

  6. The use of the cream color with the white really makes this idea special, I think. Good ol' log cabin - like HST's, endlessly creative!

  7. I love this Rita. Very cute effect with the sweet colors. And your quilting style is just what appeals to me as well.
I hope you are not too toasty there with the weather.
I am still wearing shorts during the day, but the mornings are chilly here.
Christina gave me an olden quilt I made. I need to put my walking foot on and do a little more quilting on it so it can withstand more washing. Sarah is 4 months now and we put her on the floor on her tummy for a while. She gets really mad haha
    Happy Friday dear friend

  10. Lovely, happy little quilt, Rita. It's just the right colorway for a little girl to play on, sleep under, and snuggle with. You definitely have a talent with color! It's hard to decide which I like more the whites (for the cleanliness) or the colors (for their sweetness) but they definitely play well together. And that butterfly backing--perfection!
