A photo review of three of the Fall 2014 Cotton and Steel quilting cotton collections: Mochi, Mesa and Tokyo Train Ride (see Playful and Cookie Book photo reviews here).
Mochi by Rashida Coleman-Hale |
Mochi by Rashida Coleman-Hale; inspired by Japan and the Harvest Moon Festival which is celebrated by making mochi (Japanese rice cakes) and collecting flowers and grasses.
This collection includes several great foundation prints/basics that go with everything in the Cotton and Steel Collection, including the small circle print (above left), which is a personal favorite. I also like the inclusion of two designs printed on a natural - calico - base cloth (also pictured above) with tiny flecks of cotton seed for texture and interest, and last the whimsical coin purse print in two different colors:
Mochi - Gamaguchi in Navy and Mint |
Mesa by Alexia Abegg |
Mesa - Overlookserape and Woodblock |
Mesa - Spirit Animal in Snow, Diningcar in Turquoise, Stars in Aqua Indigo |
Note again the inclusion of two prints on the new Cotton and Steel unbleached base cloth. I also really like the woodblock design ~ for which I have ordered yardage ~ as well as the hand drawn animal design.
And last, but not least ...
Tokyo Train Ride by Sarah Watts |
This collection is inspired by Sarah's reflections and sketches during a family trip to Japan as well as her grandmother's heirlooms and stories from the eight years she lived in Japan during the 1960’s.
Sarah's hand drawn designs are sophisticated and detailed, the color palette is warm and perfectly captures the spirit of fond memories of her travels as well as the stories told by her grandmother.
