A non-quilty friend is having a baby - a baby girl - due late April, and of course every baby does need a quilt ... and a quilt makes a practical and personal gift. The quilt design is loosely based on the Tiffany Quilt Pattern (I have turned the center square into three equal strips).
Rather than limit myself to using only low volume fabrics, I have this time also included slightly "noisier" fabrics ~ prints with a light/white background but also with plenty of color. I have not favored any particular color palette using blue, green, pink, orange, grey and yellow, as well as small and larger scale prints. It all seems to work. As always, anything goes.
For the back of the quilt I have used a cute print from the Little Apples collection by Aneela Hoey (Tortoises). It's rather the perfect fabric for a baby quilt. So sweet.
For the quilt binding I have used a soft baby pink/white stripe fabric. There were no details on the fabric selvage but I believe it is from the Color Basics range by Lecien.

ReplyDeleteI love it, Rita! I'm really wanting to make a low volume baby quilt, and love your idea of using colors on white to "pop" it up!
ReplyDeleteLovely! I am afraid of using white for a baby. Or for me :)
ReplyDeleteThat is one really lovely quilt! I'm sure your friend will be more than delighted with such a lovely and loving gift. :)
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how much I adore the fabrics in this quilt! The light backgrounds but tons of colour are just the best. Nicely done! I'm sure it will be well loved :)
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic, I really like the low volume-ness here!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! I love to randomness of it :)
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful, as usual, Rita! Low volume color play is something else, isn't it? So fun to see how you can throw a bunch of prints together and they all magically work.

ReplyDeleteThis may be my favorite quilt I have ever seen you make (and I love everything you do!) Those tiny grey flowers may be the absolute perfect grey and that binding is divine!
ReplyDeleteAnother gorgeous quilt! Love the backing fabric for a little girl, it is so precious!
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous. It is probably as low volume as I could ever make. I am not good at "quiet" quilts
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! Striped bindings are my favorites, and your tidy little mitred corner looks perfect. I really like your mix of prints, too -- you make combinations that look so effortless that they appear random (but I've tried ACTUAL random fabric selection, and THOSE results were NOT pretty!). Lucky baby, lucky friend!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this one :)
ReplyDeletePretty! The pink striped binding is really sweet.
ReplyDeletelove this!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely quilt. Love all the different fabrics and how the colours go together so beautifully. And of course the pink and white binding is perfect. A gorgeous gift which will be treasured.

I love the way the sweet pink stripes in the binding change this from a wonderful quilt to a perfect baby quilt!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a sweet quilt, Rita. And I love your signature striped binding but in a soft pink--perfect. This will definitely be a well-loved quilt!
ReplyDeleteWonderful baby quilt! Love the binding. how wide do you cut it, is it double and how deep do you sew, ie. 1/4 in, 1/2 in? I would love to know. Thanks, Denise
