It's been a week of all things pink in my "studio" and I am happy to say that although it has been a while since I have been quite so heavy handed with the pink color palette, it has been ever so delightful.
I am also revisiting my love for Half Square Triangles and the traditional Hourglass Block; repetitive easy piecing although dealing with bulkier seams - where points meet - is always a little tricky. I have pressed the seams together and have tried to be consistent throughout the piecing of this quilt top to ensure that seams lock together and try to avoid excessive bulk.
My fabric selection is from my stash of pink fabrics, with a touch of red and orange. I have contrasted these with a wide variety of low volume white/black prints which has added much detail. My initial plan was to make two baby quilts however once I saw the impact of the small hourglass blocks on my design floor I revisited the plan and pieced a single quilt top.
More soon.

Oddly enough, I'm working on an hourglass quilt right now using your tutorial and inspired by your original hourglass quilt! Was amused to see this pop up in my blog feed. :)
ReplyDeleteI love it.
ReplyDeleteYou have mixed off whites and whites, which I would have been hesitant to do but it works so well! What an amazing range of fabrics. Which fabric is the white with the black safety pins on it?
ReplyDeleteThe safety pin fabrics is by Timeless Treasures and is called White Safety Pins Tossed. It is currently available from The Fat Quarter Shop.
DeleteThanks Rita! It caught my eye. Great quilt.
DeleteGorgeous. I think I may make an hourglass quilt top with the Micro Mod fabric I have coming in the mail! Thanks for the inspiration, Rita!

ReplyDeleteI've only recently started following your blog, but I'm in love with your colors, fabrics, everything! My mom is a quilter, and I really enjoy watching her quilt, but I find it difficult to find inspiration enough to make any quilts, until recently, and I've started two in the past couple months.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see the finessey details behind your perfect piecing. You said you did a lot of ironing, but would you consider making a post with pictures and descriptions of your process?
Thanks for sharing your quilts with us!
Another beautiful job, Rita. Always love seeing your wonderful quilts!
ReplyDeleteThis is just beautiful! I have the largest stack of pink fabrics--probably more pink than any other color in my stash. Which is weird because I rarely sew with pink--but apparently I just really enjoy collecting it! And I have lots of text and black/white. So maybe one of these beautiful quilts will be in my future this year...
ReplyDeleteI find these hst's my brain's automatic block of choice when I sit down to sew. The effect is so great and I love all those points. Not usually a pink girl but I adore this. As ever your combo is brilliant and inspiring.

I'm pretty much in love with this one.
ReplyDeleteit's pretty in pink done well -- looking forward to seeing your binding and quilting pattern
ReplyDeleteThis is soo pretty Rita. You never cease to amaze me. I've decided to branch out from square block and try my hand at an HSQ quilt. Do you have any tricks for making these buggers. I've placed two squares together, stitched 1/4" each side of center and cut down the middle and now squaring up. Probably just a lot of practice yes?
ReplyDeleteI have so much pink fabric just waiting to be used in something. I'm not normally a pink person but I really like this!
ReplyDeleteI have been pink crazy lately and love your quilt.
ReplyDeleteI'm not usually a fan of pink or pastels, but I really like this one. I think it's because most of your white and ivory prints have black in them, and the smattering of a few reds -- it makes the whole thing a bit more sophisticated. Can you please explain what you mean by "low volume" fabrics?
ReplyDeleteI`m fan of your work and your fabrics choice. Thanks for sharing and inspiring!!
ReplyDeleteI've got a ton of these kinds of blocks and was wondering what the heck to do with them! LOVE your quilt ~ it's so pretty in pink!

ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! Thanks for linking back to your post about locking in your seams. I was the one who asked you about it on Instagram. Very new to quilting & sewing and it is so interesting to learn new techniques and why you would use them.
ReplyDeleteI too would like a peek at the back of your quilt...I know I have a lot to learn. Thank you for considering sharing the technique. You continue to flabbergast me with your prolific output of quilts. Just plain incredible....
ReplyDeleteFantastic!!!!! You've used some of my all-time favorite fabrics there... And yes, thanks for linking to the post about locking in seams. I'm new to piecing and don't know what you even mean, so I guess I better go read the piece. Lol.
