Christmas in July!
I am having a difficult time believing that we are indeed halfway through 2012 and even more so that we're on the slippery slope counting down towards Christmas. Again! This is always such a busy time of the year, but this year I am hoping to be a little organized about it.
This little quilt features Aneela Hoey's (just about to be released) new fabric collection Cherry Christmas for Moda. Aneela very kindly send me a selection of prints from her new collection for preview, and I absolutely couldn't wait to get the machine whirring.
Cherry Christmas is not too overly Christmas-y, and I have enjoyed working with the collection as well as stash fabrics to get my fix of fabric play, for a balance of colors and prints that don't shout CHRISTMAS.
I have also already had my weekly dose of quilting. Lots of straight organic vertical lines - unmarked - which gives this quilt a lovely soft hand and smooth drape. The backing fabic is also by Aneela: Tortoises from the Little Apples collection.
For binding I have used a scallop stripe fabric in red/white (Ruby - Sundae by Bonnie and Camille) for another understated touch of Christmas.
With thanks to Aneela for allowing me the preview her newest fabric collection; it was a privilege and indeed a joy!

What a joy, to make and complete a Christmas quilt already, I love it. I would love to be a fly on the wall in your sewing room to see all the quilts whip up. Happy Chrissy in July.

ReplyDeleteYes I'm having a hard time believing that half the year is gone already. I have been sewing almost every weekend and thought that I would be further along with completions than I am - it's a little harder to sit at the sewing machine to do some quilting when it is in the 80's and 90's outside and no air conditioner inside, but I try.

ReplyDeleteI love the "understated Christmas" look! You could definitely get away with using this quilt all year long! I also love the turquoise color Aneela used in this collection! It brings an awesome element to the collection!

ReplyDeleteI have a question for you. We have very little options for buying beautiful fabric in our area so most of my shopping is online. Obviously you receive a lot of fabric from different suppliers and designers. However, do you shop locally as well or online? My question about online shopping is how do you go about picking fabrics to go together if they are not from the same line? In other words, how do you know your colors are going to maatch. this is something I struggle with all the time.
