I already knew that I was going to struggle to maintain a completely neutral color palette for this quilt and so I allowed myself go with the flow, adding pops of color and whimsy as it unfolded.
As much as this quilt isn't my usual strong color style, I am totally in love with it! The quilt still features color boldly, but also has subtle undertones and a stillness that resonates.
FABRICS USED: I have used numerous shades of grey, white and off white, including Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton in White, Snow, Natural, Sand, Ash and Medium Grey. Also included are many shades of marble white Oakshott Shot Cottons which add not only variety in hue but also texture and luminosity.
The solids fabrics used are from the Pure Elements collection by Pat Bravo for Art Gallery Fabrics :: Emerald, Tile Blue, Lemonade and Honey. These solid fabrics sparkle with saturated color!
Now ready for quilting! I am in two minds as to how to quilt this quilt top : it's going to either quilted very minimally ("in the ditch") OR densely quilted with a grid of intersecting lines. I am leaning towards the dense grid ... more texture ...
Thank you for stopping by,
Rita

Love it! Absolutely brilliant!:-)
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful! And even though this isn't your usual color palette, it still has your name all over it. I can definitely see your style showing through. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat looking quilt, like the colors. Wish a picture could truly portray the textures and hues. Bet it's fabulous in real life!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. My eye is grabbing the triangle of red.
ReplyDeleteCuteness!
ReplyDeleteGreat choice of colours Rita - and the red is perfect for those pops too!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing it quilted and of course your signature binding!!

P.S Sounds like it is an inside type of day today in Melbourne, perfect for the sewing machine - we have sun and blue sky today in Perth....
Another Red Pepper winner!
ReplyDeleteHad a little chuckle to myself. Love the spalshes of colour Rita. Glad you couldn't resist, looks fabulous as always.
ReplyDeleteI think is one of your best! I love the pops of colour, especially the yellows (leomonade and honey). It is so simple and understated that I would keep the quilting to a minimum, but whatever you do quilting wise will be perfect, I'm sure. Now for the binding - what about a spot? This too would be a step out of your usual striped (always gorgeous) bindings. Can't wait to see it finished.
ReplyDeleteI like how you used a variety of neutrals...and the colors are just fantastic! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI love this one. The neutrals are so elegant, and the bit of color makes it.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Those little pops of color in the centers are great. I like your dense quilting idea.

ReplyDeleteI think it's a wonderful balance of neutral and a bit of color. Really love the way it came out.

ReplyDeleteWell, Jackie said exactly what I was going to say! love the bits of color ~ really makes the quilt!
ReplyDeleteI love how it has a splash of color here and there! Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI do really like it - I think sometimes the eyes need a place to rest in between colors or designs. Very soothing.
ReplyDeleteThat looks great! The splashes of colour really add to the neutral tones =D
ReplyDeleteI'm hosting a new swap over at my blog if anyone is interested please pop over for a look =D
