[workinprogress]

My scrap bin is OVER-flowing!  I kid you not, I can't close the lid.  Even with a little force it just won't stay on.  I've taken this is a sign that it is time for a scrap quilt project and have jumped into my scrap bin feet first (literally!).

And just in case you thought I may have my scraps all nicely cataloged and arranged by color, shape, pattern, ... please know that, although I love each and every tiny piece very much, they all unceremoniously squashed together in one (or maybe two!) large plastic boxes.

It's messy business working from my scrap bins (tipped over and spread out on the floor for better viewing) and slow going, but I thoroughly enjoy working with my fabric scraps.  In fact, so much so, that it has reminded that I perhaps should work more often with my scraps.

Oodles of scraps ready for use, and many more log cabin blocks still to be made...

Happy stitching everyone!
Rita

  5. I just love the way scraps play so nicely together. But no doubt you were very choosy and it's not as random as it appears, is it?

  15. Do you have any tips on how you pick scraps to go together? B/c yours always seem to go together so well. Love this!

  17. I'd love to have a bin of scraps to work with. My friends remind me that if I would sew more, I'd have more scraps. Well said.

  18. Why is it I just want more scraps when I see yours?!

  19. Hum, what am I doing wrong? I have a scrap bin, but it's nothing so pretty as yours! Maybe that's one reason I don't jump in feet first or any other way. Okay, I'll give it a try!

  22. Very nice!! I did the same a few months ago. But not only with scraps, I also used new fabric and pieces of clothes that my daughters didn't fit anymore. Here you can see it (if you like to): http://teveelleuks.blogspot.com/2011/07/de-plaid-is-eindelijk-af.html

  24. just beautiful, Rita and such an inspiration...that's it...I'm diving right into my scrap bin!! Actually you've also made me realise that my anally colour coded scrap bins (all 7 of them!) actually isn't the best way to see something. When I look in the blue bin all I see is blues, where as if they were all jumbled in together, like yours, I think a great fabric jumps out at you more readily...off to rearrange my scraps...

  25. Hi! Thanks for your comment on my quilt. I used piping, it turned out great and I think it's a good alternative for regular binding. I used this tutorial (in Dutch but with understandable pictures): http://emmaenmona.blogspot.com/search/label/handleiding%20dekentje
I finished my quilt the same way. What does 'bag out' mean? I made mine on my own way, don't know anything about quilting :o)
I sewed 4 big squares to hold front and back together.

    Good luck stitching!

  26. I had to laugh, why do other peoples scraps always look more fun to play with than mine! I too throw them all indiscriminately in a box (possibly never to see this light of day again!) but I have bee duly inspired by your post to go and have a dig around to see what I can come up with :)
(If I'm never seen again please tell the police to look in my scrap bin, I may have fallen in!)

  27. I love a scrap quilt the most I think and yours is so pretty because of your selection of scraps.

  28. This looks great. Were you choosy with scraps for each block or random?

  29. rita, i REALLY like the look of this quilt. so many pretty colors all playing together in one place! :)

  30. WOW so many scraps! Your scraps are so much bigger then mine, I could never make a log cabin quilt with mine. I seem to keep scraps that are far too small to be of much use, but I hate to throw them away!

  31. Looking great! I don't have enough scraps to do anything good with them yet but I certainly plan on it when I do!!!

  32. Rita! You did done it again!! I worked all afternoon making some scrappy improv squares (or, they will be squared up eventually) and I can't wait to see what yours (and mine) turn out like!
    Thanks again, you're super inspiring!

  33. wonderful...i love your scrap quilts! I can't believe you still have KJR and FMF fabrics still. I love how you pull all the classics out. Do you try for a color scheme when building your scrap quilts or do you just grab and sew?

  34. Just yummy blocks Rita. Can you tell us what width your strips are. You quilts always have such a great sense of proportion. Thanks!
