Do you sometimes wonder if we all see color differently? Everyone has their own emotional response to and personal preference for color but, beside being color blind, do you wonder if we actually see the same thing and with the same intensity? I hope so ...
Happy Sunday,
Rita
I have been admiring that range of fabric. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
ReplyDeleteActually, people don't see colors the same! It's pretty fascinating. There has been some research that feels that many women have an extra color receptor type in their eye (so not just red, green, blue) that lets them see more colors than the average person.
ReplyDeleteThere's also a display at a museum near here that explores how different people see the same color in different ways.
I could ramble about this for a long time, but I'll spare you. And I will say, even if I don't see the colors the same as you, those fabrics are gorgeous! :D
That same-seeing colour question is one that hounds me All The Time. And it's a bit the same as the query I have every time I lay text out in a document. I think about how old the reader is likely to be and try and find some happy medium between elegant and readable. BUT WHAT IF MY EYESIGHT IS WORSE THAN THAT OF EVERYONE ELSE?
ReplyDeleteI do think that everyone must surely see chartreuse as the same. The name itself just says it all.
those are gorgeous Rita!
ReplyDeletehappy sunday!
some of these arrived on my doorstep today, Rita. Loving it!
ReplyDeleteYou always post things I'd love!! I can't wait to see what you create with it :)
ReplyDeleteThey look great! all very retro and groovy
ReplyDeleteBeing red green colorblind I can say we do not see color the same! Because I still see red and green...but I dont think its the same as what other see...and it can disapear into other colors.
ReplyDeleteThese are on my list to buy for sure, just haven't bit the bullet yet. Love the orange. Love it!

ReplyDeleteI bought some of those fabrics too, I just couldn't resist the patterns and colours! One of the best ways I've found to determine if people are seeing colours more-or-less the same (it's very interesting about the extra colour receptors in some women) is to find a rather indeterminate blue/purple colour, gather a group of men and women and try and decide if it's blue or purple. Hours of fun! The times I've ended up doing this, the group generally divides along gender lines, with the women seemingly seeing more subtle graditions than the men, but I suppose you could put that down to language-use too. I have read that women percieve red better than men, perhaps partially explaining the interest in pink in a way that doesn't involve Disney princesses. Anyways, interesting thoughts.
ReplyDeleteYour new header is serious eye candy. Great makeover (and I love the fabric too of course!).
ReplyDeleteLove your new header Rita (because I love all of your designs)!
ReplyDeleteIt's not just about seeing the colours differently, I believe that the emotional response to colour can't be counted out. We feel a certain way when we see colours and that will vary according to our experiences.
ReplyDeleteThen there is the way colour is spelled.
I work in a craft shop now and then and there it is is quite obvious that all different makers have a different take on colour. Some of the work I honestly did not understand initially and I even thought that some of the crafters had bad taste/colour sensibility (evil me). When I've started to look more closely at the items I came to the conclusion that perception of colour must vary a lot from person to person.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved how different people have different colours that are their favourites and their 'colour comfort zone', I find it very inspiring to meet new people and get to know their personal colour world, it widens my own perception of colour I think. Not sure if this rambling was at all what you were asking for though :)
I wonder about this ALL THE TIME, too! Glad I'm not the only one! Lovely fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI often wonder about this as I have a son who is colour blind. It makes me so sad that he misses out on the glory of this colourful world, but then again, he doesn't know any different. I wonder what he actually CAN see.
ReplyDeleteI had the exact same thought about taste last Friday .....weird!
ReplyDeleteWe definitely have an emotional response to color. These metro fabrics are fabulous...the color so clear. I know people gravitate towards colors that make them feel comfortable - I am no exception. There are colors you wont find in my stash because I just don't feel comfortable using them. I am beginning to think working on very small projects and pulling in a few of these colors is a brilliant idea...just to stretch your comfort zone.
ReplyDeleteI was at Sew Mama Sew when Kristin got her order of Metro Living in the shop. Wow! I love them and can't wait to add some to my stash.
ReplyDeleteLove the fabrics!
ReplyDeleteI have often wondered if we are both looking at the same "color" and agree that it is "green", whether your "green" is really closer to my "blue".
I often ponder the same question! Do you see the colour red the same as I see the colour red - perhaps my red looks more like your green!! My brother is red/green colourblind and can't tell the difference between green and brown - which would make trees particularly bland!
ReplyDeleteI often have "discussions" with my husband about whether a colour is green or blue and the similar "discussions" about yellow versus orange!
ReplyDeleteLove those prints! My sister and I were arguing about fabric color just the other day! She kept referring to a print as "red", and I had to keep telling her it was "orange"!
ReplyDeletethese are beautiful fabrics. can't wait to get a hold of some of them.
ReplyDeleteHa! I've always wondered if people who have "bad" taste in color (well, at least in my eyes) just see colors differently. I always kind of hope they do just see them differently -- giving them the benefit of the doubt and all that their color selections really are pretty...
